National political commentators have noted that without labor's support, it is unlikely that Senator Lautenberg would have won the election this year. Here in Union County, as throughout New Jersey, the Central Labor Council was headquarters for voter registration, voter education, and of course, get out the vote efforts.

On election day itself, volunteers from a broad range of Local Unions in the county canvassed union members and their families. Autoworkers, letter carriers, health & hospital employees, teachers, electricians & other members of the building trades, as well as many other affiliated union members participated to elect labor's candidates. |
